Laurence Davies

Laurence studied at the Guildhall School of Music with Hugh Seenan and Tony Chiddell. Graduating in 1989 Laurence embarked on a busy freelance career before joining the Philharmonia as third horn in 1997. In 1998 he was promoted to principal, a position he enjoyed for ten years. In 2008 Laurence was appointed principal horn of the RPO, leaving in 2018 to continue his freelance career recording music for films, TV shows and video games and appearing as guest principal with various UK orchestras. Laurence is a founder member of the Manchester based Pleyel Ensemble. Alongside music, in 2013 he gained a BA in archaeology and classical studies from the Open University. Now living back in his childhood county of Wiltshire, Laurence runs Oldbury Tours (oldburytours.co.uk) through which he shares his enthusiasm for the many historic and prehistoric sites of the area. He has three daughters and a son.
